Iran Launches Over 200 Missiles and UAVs in Retaliation Against Israel

Israeli media reported that Iran launched over 200 missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at Israel on February 28, marking the largest retaliatory strike since the joint Israeli-American air campaign against Tehran began that same day.

Air raid sirens blared continuously throughout central and northern Israel on February 28. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), in this initial retaliatory attack by Iran, approximately 125 missiles were fired, of which only 35 entered Israeli airspace, with the rest intercepted outside.

The Magen David Adom (MDA) National Emergency Service confirmed that a residential building in northern Israel was directly hit by a missile. In the city of Tirat Hacarmel, missile debris penetrated the 17th floor of a 20-story building, causing minor injuries to one person.

By afternoon, the IDF reported that Iran continued to launch multiple missile strikes, with approximately 15 targeting central and northern Israel. The military urged residents to strictly adhere to safety instructions and stay near shelters. Unconfirmed reports indicated another residential building in central Israel was hit by missiles, but no serious casualties were reported.

Overall, Israeli medical personnel treated approximately 89 people that day, mostly for minor injuries from debris or injuries sustained while seeking shelter; six cases were treated for panic.

In addition to missiles, several drones suspected of originating from Iran also entered Israeli airspace, including areas near the Dead Sea. The IDF announced it had shot down more than 10 UAVs since Operation Lion Roar was launched on the morning of February 28, and released video footage showing its air defense system intercepting a hostile UAV.

By 6:30 PM that day, a total of more than 200 missiles and UAVs were reportedly launched toward Israel. Meanwhile, Iranian media, citing sources in Tehran, claimed to have deployed approximately 1,200 missiles and UAVs targeting objectives in the Middle East since that morning.
