Peace Is Possible — A Dove’s Journey Across the World
“With the Peace Doves, we remind everyone of the truth they sometimes forget — that peace is possible.” — Dr. Jane Goodall
Every year on September 21st, the world comes together for the International Day of Peace, honoring compassion, unity, and respect among people and nations.
It all started in 2002, when Dr. Goodall was named a UN Messenger of Peace. Roots & Shoots youth in Wisconsin created the first Giant Peace Dove from recycled materials. What began as a single student project has since flown across nearly 100 countries, carried through schools, villages, city streets, and even mountains and streams — a powerful symbol of hope and harmony.
Today, Roots & Shoots members continue this tradition, reminding us that peace isn’t just the absence of conflict — it’s the presence of compassion and action for people, animals, and the environment we all share.
