“GOODBYE, MY DEAR FRIEND… YOU ARE FREE”

“GOODBYE, MY DEAR FRIEND… YOU ARE FREE”

For 70 years, Gom, the elephant, knew nothing but the harsh grip of iron chains and the merciless sting of whips. Her life was a constant performance, driven by exhaustion, hunger, and unimaginable pain. She trembled with every step, her joints aching from the strain of a life spent in servitude.

The world saw her as just another “old elephant,” but in her eyes, there was a depth of sorrow that no one could truly understand. Gom’s soul whispered, “I also dreamed of being loved.” Yet, that dream felt as distant as the stars — until, one day, a miracle happened.

She was rescued.

For the first time in her life, Gom walked on soft ground, the cool earth beneath her feet instead of the cold, unforgiving cement floor she had known for so long. She bathed in a river, feeling the fresh water on her skin. She grazed on fresh leaves, tasted freedom with every bite, and slept under the comforting shade of trees — no longer haunted by the fear of the electric whip.

In her final years, Gom experienced something she had never known before: love. Gentle hands caressed her, soothing the aches of a life lived in pain. Kind words were spoken to her, and she finally felt safe, at peace, and, most of all, loved.

Yesterday, Gom passed away quietly. No pain. No fear. Just peace. The peace of a soul finally free from the chains that had bound her for seven decades. Gom is free — truly free — for the first time in her long life.

Thank you to those who gave Gom back her dignity, her comfort, and the love she deserved, instead of more chains.

Sleep well, sweet Gom, the gentlest soul. Now, you are free to fly, in spirit and in heart.
