Many know Dr. Jane Goodall for her groundbreaking work with chimpanzees, but fewer know that dogs have always held a special place in her heart!

While chimpanzees may be close to humans in many ways, Dr. Jane once shared that dogs were her true favorites. To her, they were not only loyal companions but profound teachers — showing intelligence, individuality, and deep emotional bonds that transcended species. From her childhood dog, Rusty, to the many pups she’s met along her journeys, Dr. Jane has always believed in treating animals with the utmost kindness, empathy, and respect.

Her love for dogs is something she has often spoken about, and just last month, she shared this affection in a conversation with The Dogist, a popular photo project celebrating the beauty of dogs. During the chat, she met some adorably cute pups, and her joy and connection with them were unmistakable.

Dr. Jane’s message to the world is simple yet powerful: Treat every animal with respect, understanding, and love — whether they share our similarities or not. Through the eyes of a dog, we can learn the true meaning of loyalty, compassion, and unconditional love.
