It all began with an act of pure compassion that blossomed into one of the most extraordinary friendships the world has ever known. In Costa Rica, a fisherman named Gilberto “Chito” Shedden stumbled upon a dying crocodile near the Parismina River. This animal, later named Pocho, had been shot by a farmer and was left weak, starving, and abandoned.

While most would have turned away, Chito didn’t hesitate. He carried the massive 17-foot, 1,000-pound crocodile home, nursed him back to health, and treated his wounds with love and care. Day after day, Chito fed Pocho, and gradually, the crocodile regained his strength.

But what happened next was nothing short of miraculous. When Pocho was strong enough to return to the wild, he refused. Despite being a feared creature, Pocho chose to stay by the side of the man who had shown him nothing but kindness.
